I meant to paint the forest, but became so mesmerised with this one tree that I developed what you may call “tunnel-vision”.
I was drugged by this form we call a tree. I was drugged by its random texture, twisting shapes, haphazard lines, and myriad colours, countless possibilities painted into an organic form we call life. Everything else blurred into a pale.
I was so drugged that I returned to this one tree repeatedly, over 4 days, each visit halted by rain, but each visit rendering a new perception. What made that hue of blue? What lived in that hole? Was the chip in that moss-covered bark? Where was the vine that grew thinner than a thread?
I am writing this now, 4 years on. But the drug never wore off.
